$1.4 Billion Agreement Signed for Geothermal Facilities at Salton Sea
March 23, 2023
An agreement was signed on March 15th to build up to six geothermal power facilities around the Salton Sea. Under this deal, Controlled Thermal Resources will hire Fuji Electric Corp. of America to finish construction of its first plant and also provide parts for, and possibly build, five more facilities. The facilities will have the potential to produce 330 megawatts of steam power and enough lithium for 2.5 million electric car batteries.
The project will utilize steam turbine generators and transformers made by Fuji Electric, and Fuji Electric will handle all equipment, procurement, and construction of the new plants. Controlled Thermal Resources anticipates the first facility will be up and running in late 2024.
