5,000 New Homes Planned for Palm Desert

April 6, 2023

North Palm Desert is experiencing a tremendous amount of growth and housing is set to more than triple in the area in the next few years, with more than 4,500 units either under construction or approved by the City. Plans for hundreds of additional new homes are under review with the City’s Building & Safety Division.

Palm Desert officials have estimated that the City will add approximately 10,000 new residents once all of the plans for new housing are complete. Some residents have concerns that the area is not yet ready for such an increase in the population, and feel the city could do more to prepare for the thousands of potential new residents. City officials say they have been planning for the growth for many years and are gradually implementing infrastructure and improvements to the area. A new fire station has been approved for Gerald Ford Drive, expected to be completed in 2025, and a regional park is in the design process for the area as well. Officials have also been lobbying for Palm Desert to be the mid-valley train station location for a proposed train connecting the Coachella Valley to Los Angeles.
