The City of Palm Desert has begun discussions regarding its role in the area to the north of the city’s northern border near Acrisure Arena as the new entertainment venue is now drawing thousands of visitors to the area. The city held a closed discussion meeting about possibly acquiring 1,100 acres north of the freeway, including the land that Acrisure Arena sits on, which could indicate a future expansion to the city’s border.
It is not known if the owner of the land, Berger Foundation, is interested in selling, and city officials have not offered much information publicly. Additionally, some of the land in the area is currently in the sphere of influence, a county-level planning designation, of the city of Cathedral City. After the closed session, council members and city officials stated only that no formal action was taken.
