The City of Coachella has undergone and is continuing through a huge transformation in recent years. Between 2000 to 2010, the city’s population doubled, rendering it one of the fastest-growing cities in California.

In 2023, the California Strategic Growth Council awarded Coachella one of the state’s largest community-driven climate grants through the Transformative Climate Communities Program. With this, came the city’s sustainability plan, Coachella Prospera, which focuses equity and climate resilience within the community. 

Coachella Prospera aims to improve transportation, create access to affordable housing and recreational activities, improve parks and open spaces, and update necessary infrastructure.
