Visit Greater Palm Springs has released its latest Economic Impact Report, for tourism in the year 2022. Tourism is the Coachella Valley’s largest industry, supporting 1 in 4 jobs in the area, according to Visit Greater Palm Springs.
The newest report reveals record-breaking numbers in visitor spending last year, for a total of $7.1B. The report shows a total of 14.1M visitors came to greater Palm Springs in 2022, which is significantly more than the year prior, and roughly the same number of visitors as pre-pandemic 2019. The lodging and recreation industries experienced the highest percentages of growth, at 29.6% and 27.5%, respectively. According to the Economic Impact Report, visitation remains largely dominated by domestic visitors, with 97.6% of visitors being domestic. Of the 14.1M total visitors, 53% were day visitors while 47% were overnight visitors.
According to the report, in 2022, “The direct visitor spending impact of $7.1 billion generated a total economic impact of $8.7 billion in Greater Palm Springs in 2022 including indirect and induced impacts. This total economic impact sustained more than 49,000 jobs and generated $812 million in state and local tax revenues in 2022.”
